Casetta Savoiardi Christmas House

The Savoiardi Christmas House is a simple and beautiful display for your Christmas table. No baking required - Just takes a little bit of fiddly work and it’s done!

Ingredients:

40 Savoiardi Biscuits (Sponge finger biscuits)

Icing Sugar approx. 500g

Cold Water

Firstly, prepare the icing by placing the icing sugar in a bowl, create a little well and adda little water in the centre of the well mixing in the sugar slowly until it forms a thick paste. Make sure it’s not too runny as you want the icing to be thick and pliable otherwise it will not stick well to the biscuits.

To form the side walls of the house, spread the surface of5 biscuits with icing and overlap each to formone side wall . Repeat to form the other side wall.Place flat on a tray in the fridge for 30 minutes to set.

To form the frontwall, you will repeat the process and create 8 rows of Sponge Finger biscuits with icing inbetween Repeat for the back wall and place flat on the tray in the fridge for 30 minutes to set.

Remove the 8 row front and back walls of sponge fingers from the fridge and cut the last three, forming a triangle so that they fit perfectly on top of each other as this will support the roof.

For the front door, cut a rectangle in the middle of 2 rows of biscuits.

Place some icing as a base on a serving tray to sit both side walls and front and back walls firmly on.Place in fridge while you prepare the roof.

For one side of the roof, place icing along the sides of 6 sponge finger biscuit so they sit neatly attached. Repeat for the other side of roof.

Apply icing to the part of the house where the roof will be supported and on the inside of the sloping roof so it attaches to the upper side of the house.

If the roofs are not stable, use leftover pieces under the roof to handle and support the roof.

Brush with icing and place the last 2 sponge finger biscuits as the centre beams on the roof. This will also cover any imperfections and more icing to hide any gaps.

Attach the chimney with icing by using one of door cutouts and place the Savoiardi House in the fridge to fully set.

When you are ready to display your Savoiardi House on the Christmas Table, dust evenly with icing sugar and place a few cinnamon sticks on the side of the house as firewood.

Voila! Done!

This Casetta will keep for one week in the refrigerator.
